Who We Are

Founded in 2011, GlobeMed at Bethel Universiy is one of 46 GlobeMed chapters working to improve the health of people living in poverty around the world. Our chapter partners with REDA in Svay Rieng, Cambodia. Together, we work to enable rural families vulnerable to persistant poverty to secure economic, health, social and civic living conditions.

Our Partner - REDA in Svay Rieng, Cambodia

REDA, (Rural Econonmic Development Association) was established in August 15, 1993 in the Svay Rieng province of Cambodia. REDA provides social support and counseling to people living with HIV/AIDS and suffering chronic illnesses. Programs facilitated by REDA include an Integrated Care and Prevention team, agriculture skills for improved livelihood, health system strengthening, vocation training for young adults, water & oral rehydration, and an orphanage which houses 28 children. It is REDA’s continued intention to respond to these challenges and support households to become self-sufficient, thereby keeping families together.

Our Project - $3,500 for installation of water pumps and toilets

This year, GlobeMed at Bethel University is aiming to raise $3,500 to install water pumps and toilets for community members in Svay Rieng. 91% of residents in the Svay Rieng Province do not have access to a toilet and many lack access to clean, sanitary water. Those receiving water pumps and toilets include HIV families, widows, and disabled families. Together, GlobeMed at Bethel and REDA work to reduce the effects of water-borne diseases, improve water quality, and secure the basic rights of the community.
