15 Founders in 15 Days - Divya Srinivisan, MIT
by Maya Cohen on June 12, 2011
It's now day five, and coming to us from MIT is Divya Srinivisan, a rising junior studying biology and management science. Her outstanding application shows just why we knew she would be an awesome chapter founder:
"In my junior year of high school, I helped to set up the Washington D.C. chapter of Pratham International. The proceeds that we had collected were from our first annual gala. The funds that we had raised were unprecedented for a newly established chapter and I was completely spellbound. I came across Pratham International in my search for an organization to do some volunteer work in India related to education. Pratham Intl. is an internationally recognized grass-roots based literacy organization that has made significant strides in improving the literacy rate in India. At the time, they had chapters in most of the big American cities, but surprisingly didn’t have one in Washington D.C., where I hail from. I called the headquarters and asked them if I could start a chapter."
Take a look at Divya's top five music lyrics!
1. "Look, if you had one shot, or one opportunity to seize everything you wanted in one moment, would you capture it? or just let it slip?" -- Eminem (Lose Yourself)
2. "I'm beautiful in my way, cause God makes no mistakes, I'm on the right track baby I was born this way. Don't hide yourself in regret, just love yourself and you're set, I'm on the right track baby I was born this way." -- Lady Gaga (Born This Way)
3. "Every day's a new day... 15 there's still time for you, time to buy and time to choose. Hey 15, there's never a wish better than this, when you only got 100 years to live." -- Five for Fighting (100 Years)
4. "You're a falling star, you're the getaway car, you're the line in the sand, when I go to far. You're a swimming pool on an August day, and you're the perfect thing to say." -- Michael Buble (Everything)
5. Everyday I fight for all my future somethings. A thousand little awards I have to choose between. I could spend a lifetime earning things I don’t need. That’s like chasing rainbows and coming home empty...If you strip me, what would you find. If you strip me, strip it all away...Take what you want, steal my pride, build me up, or cut me down to size. Shut me out, but I’ll just scream, Im only one voice in a million, but you aint taking that from me." -- Natasha Bedingfield (Strip Me)
Divya is so motivated and extremely committed to global health, which is why we are thrilled to welcome her to GlobeMed! She will definitely be an inspiring chapter founder at MIT!
