15 Founders in 15 Days - Emilia Kihslinger, University of Wisconsin-Madison
by Maya Cohen on June 23, 2011
Our 14th newest chapter founder is Emilia Kihslinger, a rising sophomore at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is currently studying Anthropology, Entrepreneurship, French, and is Pre-med, which is quite a load. What a rock star! In High School, Emilia founded her own global health organization. Here is what she has to say about it:
“I got approval from the principal of my 800 person Catholic high school to start a student club called International Outreach. I rallied my friends, cajoled a faculty member into advising us, and never looked back. From day one, my motivation and drive to help these people astounded even me, but I fell into the role of organizer, fundraiser, publicist, motivator, activist, and recruiter as if it was the most natural thing in the world. As the founder and president of the club, I planned meetings, brainstormed, sliced red tape, worried, planned, encouraged, bought, sold, spoke, designed, announced, and persuaded my way to over $20,000 in three years. By the time I was a senior, I had it down to a science, and I had successfully cultivated several other younger students to carry on in my absence."
With all of that experience and dedication, Emilia is going to be an absolutely amazing chapter leader!
Emilia gave us her list of Top 5 Things to do:
1. Horseback Ride
2. Play Basketball
3. Snuggle with my dogs Henry and Gracie
4. Be a powerhouse for change in global health equity
5. Watch Disney movies
We were all glad to see global health equity represented!
Emilia also has great taste. She is currently:
watching: Bones and White Collar
reading: The Chronicles of Narnia and the Scarlet Letter
listening to: anything and everything....although Last Friday Night by Katy Perry has been stuck in my head lately
GlobeMed is lucky to have such an inspirational new chapter founder in our organization and we are so excited to welcome her into our family!
