15 Founders in 15 Days - Genevieve Gill-Wiehl, University of Notre Dame
by Maya Cohen on June 20, 2011
We are so pumped to welcome Genevieve Gill-Wiehl as one of our newest chapter founders! Genevieve is a rising sophomore at the University of Notre Dame. While majoring in English, she is also on a premed track. Just goes to show you how multidisciplinary GlobeMed truly is! Here is an amazing quote from her application to get to know her better!
“Four-two-three, five-two-three, six-two-three. I have encountered amazing people, cultures and histories through international dance competitions in the US, England and Ireland. I have mastered time management as I balance family, service, academics, and dance—my own four humors. Helping at the beginner classes and captaining my teams has guided me into leadership roles that I cherish. Dancing for eleven years has taught me that dedication is crucial to any success in life. I fight for what is important to me."
Genevieve will definitely bring the passion she has for dance to her GlobeMed chapter and be an awesome leader!
When we asked all of the founders to give us a Top 5 List, Genevieve said,
My Top 5 Inspirational Quotes are:
1. “Only a life lived for others is worth living” ~ Albert Einstein
2. "Be the change you wish to see in the world." ~Mahatma Gandhi
3. "If we all did the things we are capable of doing, we would literally astound ourselves." ~Thomas Edison
4. "Remember always that you not only have the right to be an individual, you have an obligation to be one." ~Eleanor Roosevelt
5. “For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone.” ~ Audrey Hepburn
These are some powerful words to live by, and we should all take their messages to heart.
Genevieve is currently reading "The Blind Side" by Michael Lewis and listening to "Born This Way" by Lady Gaga! That’s some awesome stuff!
We can’t wait to see all of the great things that Genevieve and Notre Dame are going to accomplish this year!

I live in Peru but for those circumstances in life, the first time I heard about Genevieve was in 2008, when through her mother I new that she was planning a trip to Bolivia, not exactly for a turistic trip but to SERVE. Jena (that’s how family and friends call her), new that beyond her cushions of family, protection and education, far away, in another part of America, in South America, there was people needing help, not only material help but also that kind of help that lifts spirits, the one that reliefs for the only fact of knowing that somebody cares. So there she flew to bring joy to a group of kids in Cochabamba. Besides all the material things, the time she dedicated to those kids playing, taking them for a ride or just sitting and talking to them, I’m sure will not be forgotten by those boys who now are teenagers, having most of them an occupation. Notre Dame is lucky for having Jena. I’m witness of her desire and enthusiasm for life, family, service, academic and dance. Feels good to know there’re that kind of young persons in this world making a difference in the life of others, and doing it quietly. Thank you, Aracelli Alcántara (Lima, Peru)
