Meghan Kennedy, GlobeMed at UCLA 2011 - 2012 Co-President, counts down to the 5th Annual Leadership Institute
The 2011 Leadership Institute is just around the corner and we could not be more excited for everyone to get here! Starting this Thursday, September 1st, current co-presidents and other e-board members will gather in Evanston for a weekend full of leadership development, personal discernment, and network-wide brainstorming and best practices sharing.
This year, the focus will be on partnerships. As a collective of leaders in this organization we need to take an honest look at the current state of our partnerships so that we can strengthen them to reach their full potential. In order to develop successful partnerships, there needs to be strong leaders on each end. The first step is looking at the connection between leadership and partnership at the LI and to create a strategic plan to make this a reality for our chapters this year.
All of the attendees will be reading Paul Farmer's address "Accompaniment as Policy" in preparation of examining our role as "accompagnateurs" in our partnerships. Farmer describes the role as follows: "To accompany someone is to go somewhere with him or her, to break bread together, to be present on a journey with a beginning and an end." When we strive to be leaders in our communities with our partnerships in the forefront of our minds, together we will be able to achieve so much more.
As a co-president myself, I am most looking forward to conversing with people who share in my passion for GlobeMed and who are all equally dedicated to their chapters and partners with the sole goal of making this year the best one yet. The energy and potential that each individual will bring to the LI will fuel the network to empower people in their communities to come together in action. There will be no shortage of GlobeMed love in Evanston this weekend and I am THRILLED to be a part of it all.
Stay tuned for more exciting LI updates in the next two days as we continue our countdown to the 5th annual Leadership Institute!
