The LI is only 2 days away!
While the national office is finishing up some last minute logistical details in preparation for the Leadership Institute, LI participants are getting ready for the weekend by delving into recommended materials and thinking about leadership in the context of GlobeMed's work and mission.
In order to help guide this thought process, we have been asked to watch a TED talk given by David Logan: On Tribal Leadership (16:40). Logan talks about the five kinds of tribes that humans naturally form -- in schools, workplaces, even the driver's license bureau. Watching this with our "GlobeMed tribe" in mind, we will be encouraged to go from the mindset of "I'm great and you're not" to "we're great" to "we're great, let's work together" in order to accomplish great things. By doing this, according to Logan, we will move up from stage 3 to stage 5, which is the apex in which we can finally realize "that life is great". Only 2% of tribes in the world get to stage 5 and "those are the ones that change the world".
GlobeMed, as an organization, is in my personal opinion at stage 5 and the LI is substantial evidence to back up this claim. In bringing together leaders from 42 chapters we not only recognize the greatness in our leaders, but create opportunities for "triadic relationships". These are relationships in which one tribe, GlobeMed, brings together multiple tribes, our chapters, to "extend the reach of our own tribes so that we can create something greater than ourselves". The tribes are now preparing to gather, and as a result of exchanging our ideas under our shared set of values this weekend, we will be well prepared to launch into an incredible year.
I'm going to be proud for a moment and make a statement: I am great. Yes, it's true. I am confident in saying that. I am also confident in saying that GlobeMedders are great. This currently places me in stage 4, as I believe where many other LI attendees would also consider themselves to be. The LI will be the transformative platform we need to take us into stage 5. So leaders, let's unite and relish in the fact that life is great and together we can do great things.
