2:00pm – 3:30pm
The GlobeMed National Office will be hosting its first globalhealthU online webinar with Dr. Joia Mukherjee from Partners In Health. Dr. Mukherjee will be giving a brief presentation and hosting a discussion related to our globalhealthU theme, Health and Structural Violence.
Dr. Mukherjee has extensive experience in health and structural violence through her work as the Medical Director of Partners In Health. She has overseen the expansion of successful HIV/AIDS treatment programs to eight hospitals in Haiti and six clinics in rural Rwanda, as well as the scale up of treatment programs for multi-drug resistant tuberculosis nationwide in Peru and to 14 states in the Russian Federation. She is also a respected voice in global health policy, and in 2006 was a leading contributor to new World Health Organization standards for treating HIV positive children in poor settings and for management of multi-drug resistant tuberculosis.
Partners In Health is a Boston-based non profit organization providing health care and social services for the poor in ten countries around the world. Co-founded by Dr. Paul Farmer in 1987, PIH strives to bring the benefits of modern medical science to those most in need and works to alleviate the crushing economic and social burdens of poverty that exacerbate disease.
