Evanston, IL
Northwestern University
Thursday, Jul 22, 2010 –
Register Now: GlobeMed 2010 Leadership Institute Registration, Deadline is August 4th.
When:
Thursday - Sunday, September 2nd - 5th, 2010
Where:
Evanston, IL - Northwestern University Campus
What:
The LI is an intensive 3-day training program that enables GlobeMed chapter leaders to develop the necessary skills and strategic plans for their year ahead. The weekend will provide an opportunity to meet inspiring peers from across the country, prepare your chapter for an exciting year, and provide a transformative experience on your path of leadership for global health equity.
"The institute overall made me a better leader. Through the workshops and discussions, I gained a better understanding of the workings, expectations, and goals of GlobeMed at both the National and Chapter level. This information has proved invaluable to lead our chapter in a positive direction. " - Evan Blank '10, GlobeMed at WashU
Registration Fee:
The $45 Registration Fee covers 3 nights of hotel accommodation in Downtown Evanston, all food costs (excluding Friday Dinner), and registration for all Leadership Institute speakers and workshops. You will be directed to the payment page immediately after you hit "Submit" on the Registration Form.
Who:
Up to two leaders from each chapter, ideally, both Co-Presidents. If one or both cannot attend, please send another chapter leader in your place. This person should be a crucial or up and coming leader who would benefit from the training at the LI and be able to bring back these incredible lessons and resources back to your chapter. We recommend two people from each chapter because this allows us to keep the group small (student:staff ratio can be low for high impact), and the participants will be able to share the experience with the other person from their Chapter.

Training at the 2010 Leadership Institute will focus on:
- Leadership Development - You will strengthen and build your personal leadership and team management skills, engage in personal discernment, as well as clearly communicate GlobeMed to inspire others to action.
- Partnership - We will think critically through the meaning and model of our partnerships. You will strategize how to position the relationship between you and your partner at the core of every chapter program (Campaigns, GlobalhealthU, Communication and Community-Building).
- Sharing Best Practices - We, as a group, will come together to share best practices and learn from one another so that these concepts, successful programs, and inspiring ideas will be brought back and implemented on your campuses.
FAQs
What expenses does GlobeMed cover?
GlobeMed covers all lodging and food costs (excluding Friday dinner).
What if I want to send more than 2 members?
We can only accept additional members if we have space. The Institute is meant to be an intimate event so that each attendee gets a highly interactive and impactful experience.
Which airport should I fly in to?
We recommend that you fly in and out of the Chicago O'Hare International Airport for the Leadership Institute because of its proximity to Northwestern University. The Pace 250 bus runs between Evanston (Davis St. CTA STA) and Chicago O'Hare. The trip lasts approximately one hour. You can find more information about Pace 250 here.
Does GlobeMed offer any financial support for those traveling from far away?
Yes! We have travel grants for those that demonstrate a high need. The application can be found on the Registration Page, found below.
