Chapter Profiles GlobeMed at Lawrence University
Who We Are
GlobeMed at Lawrence University is partnered with the Health Development Initiative (HDI) Rwanda to improve the sexual health and reproductive education available in Rwandan secondary schools.
Our Partner - Health Development Initiative in Kigali, Rwanda
HDI Rwanda is a non-governmental, non-profit organization based in Kigali, Rwanda. It was founded in 2005 by a dedicated group of Rwandan physicians who were united by a shared vision to improve the health of disadvantaged communities. Today, they strive to improve the quality and accessibility of health care for all Rwandans through advocacy, education, and training in an attempt to bridge the gap between communities and the health care system.
Our Project - $7,500 for a sexual health and reproductive education program in secondary schools
This year, GlobeMed at Lawrence University is funding the SHARE (Sexual Health And Reproductive Education) program. This program empowers secondary school students to engage in discussions and debates around issues regarding sexual health. Their hope is that by educating students about ways to prevent STIs and unwanted pregnancies, they will be able to make educated decisions about their sexual lives and prevent the spread of HIV/AIDs in the region. Recent advocacy by HDI on behalf of the SHARE program led to the availability of condoms in Rwandan secondary schools in order to promote safer sexual behaviors among high school students.
