Chapter Profiles GlobeMed at MIT
Who We Are
Founded in 2011, GlobeMed at MIT is one of 46 GlobeMed chapters working to improve the health of people living in poverty around the world. As a group of undergraduates passionate about global health and international development, we are working to implement the ‘Home Garden Initiative’ in impoverished rural communities in Laos.
Our Partner - Maeying Huamjai Phattana (MHP)
MHP (Maeying Huamjai Phattana or Women Mobilizing for Development) is a nonprofit association founded in March 2010 to improve village infrastructure and address issues of poverty and poor health in the rural Lao Province of Bokeo. MHP focuses on improving agriculture and nutrition and supporting ethnic minority women who live in rural areas.
Our Project - $5000 for The Home Garden Initiative
We are collaborating with MHP to plan and implement the Home Garden Initiative, which aims to develop sustainable and nutritious sources of food. Our efforts will go to constructing ponds to culture fish and frogs as well as planting fruits and vegetables. Our goal this year is to raise $5000.00 to benefit several villages in Bokeo Province, Laos.
