A search for new partners in the movement for global health equity

The coming new year marks the beginning of the first Partner Search Fellowship, and a major step towards GlobeMed’s goal of expanding to 60 chapters nationwide by 2011. On January 11th, Partner Search Fellows Hannah Robbins, NU ’09, and Rachel Berkowitz, NU ’09, take off for Managua, kicking off five months of travel. Robbins and Berkowitz will be researching and gathering information about organizations and contacts throughout Nicaragua, El Salvador, Ecuador and Peru, sharing their findings with GlobeMed and recounting their experiences here on this blog.

While traveling, Robbins and Berkowitz will be looking for grassroots health organizations with practices rooted in community leadership that would benefit from a partnership with a new GlobeMed chapter.

Strong partnerships are essential to strong chapters. A deeper connection between GlobeMed students and their partnered community forges the energy, enthusiasm, and passion on both sides, and builds the solidarity needed to work for more equitable global health. This means the search for suitable partner organizations that are excited about working with college students is especially important for GlobeMed’s vision of expanding from 19 to 60 chapters in the next two years. Ready to kick off their travels and a new step for GlobeMed, Robbins and Berkowitz write about preparing for the Partner Search Fellowship have written about their expectations here and here. You can follow their travels on the GlobeMed Blog or on a worldwide students abroad website, the195.com.
