Today, several GlobeMed members had the opportunity to talk global health with Dr. Paul Farmer, founder of Partners in Health. Dr. Farmer presented at the Chicago Global Donors Network’s Annual Conference on Global Philanthropy, where he thanked the Abbott Fund for their support of GlobeMed. He encouraged a "second revolution" in student involvement in global health - beyond awareness, students should move towards understanding the role of the public sector in conferring and securing rights to individuals. His explanation of future student involvement provided a critical lens into the new models that need to be developed for student engagement. These models will shape our generation's vision for global health and GlobeMed stands at a critical juncture in helping to create a framework in which efforts will be responsible, effective, and sustainable.
