Dear friends and family,

In the fall of 2008, GlobeMed gave me the greatest gift of all: the opportunity to turn my passion for global health into action.

Then nineteen years old, I founded a GlobeMed chapter at Columbia University. Through its partnership model, GlobeMed connected us with Gulu Women’s Economic Development and Globalization, a community-based organization in Gulu, Uganda. Over the next two years, we worked with GWED-G to bring income, health, and hope to over 5,000 Northern Ugandans. In the process, I gained one of my most treasured mentors, GWED-G’s Executive Director, Pamela Angwech.

Three years later, as GlobeMed’s Executive Director, I’ve seen that my story is far from unique. More than 1500 undergraduates at 46 campuses across the nation are working with hundreds of grassroots health activists across 18 countries to write stories of transformation, solidarity and impact just like my own.

Together, we are improving the health of people living in poverty, one partnership at a time.

This year, GlobeMed students will support 46 partner organizations and over 75 health projects on 4 continents. From using telemedicine to connect HIV/AIDS patients to care in Montgomery, Alabama with Montgomery AIDS Outreach, to bringing clean water to families in Svay Rieng, Cambodia with Rural Economic Development Association, our impact will be direct, long lasting, and critical.

Every dollar given to GlobeMed is an investment in both improving the lives of the poor today and training the lifelong leaders needed to transform the face of global health. Your support will touch every corner of our global network, from a mother able to safely give birth in Rwanda to a freshman student in Chicago who is inspired to dedicate her life to fighting for the health and dignity of the poor.

As we enter the new year, please consider making a gift to GlobeMed and support our work empowering students to bring health and hope to communities around the world.

In Pamela’s words, “the sky will be our limit!” Help us build a world in which everyone has the chance to reach their full potential.

To a new year with hope and health for all,

Maya Cohen
