GlobeMed commemorates the World Day of Social Justice
"I am because you are"-- Haitian proverb

"The only real nation is humanity" --Paul Farmer

"The worst form of violence is poverty" --Mahatma Ghandi

February 20th marks the second annual World Day of Social Justice, established by the UN to recognize the further efforts needed to eradicate extreme poverty and promote a more equitable world. The GlobeMed Network is mobilizing to organize events on campuses across the country to commemorate this powerful day and help shape its meaning for university students.

On Friday Februrary 19th, at nineteen campuses nationwide, GlobeMed chapters will be circulating bright yellow stickers with statistics and quotes from leaders in the movement for social justice. In the evening, chapters will hold "social justice slams," providing a place for students to speak about their experiences working around the world to promote social justice and share ideas for future plans. The open ended forum will not only be a way for students to share their thoughts and ideas, but it will also hopefully serve as an opportunity to build a campus community devoted to human rights and social justice.

World Day of Social Justice events will culminate with an online webinar on health and social justice led by Laura Turiano, a coordinator for the People's Health Movement 'Right to Health' campaign.

The general public is invited to join in this interactive discussion with the GlobeMed Network, and can register online here.
