GlobeMed National Office Welcomes New Chapter Advisor: Alyssa Smaldino!

We are so excited to introduce a new face to the GlobeMed National Office this year: Alyssa Smaldino!

As GlobeMed grows from 32 to 46 chapters this fall, one new full time staff member will be joining our team to help guide the network in successful expansion.

Alyssa grew up with her family of six in the small town of Butler, Pennsylvania.  She recently graduated from George Washington University with a degree in Public Health.  She joined GlobeMed at GWU the spring before their first GROW Internship, in the spring of 2008, and has witnessed their partnership with the Rwanda Village Concept Project (RVCP) prosper greatly over the past three and a half years.  The opportunity to witness and partake in this growth has infused in her a passion for global health and social justice that is impossible to contain. As Co-Campaign Coordinator for one year and Co-President during her senior year, Alyssa has learned that through organizations like GlobeMed, a small group of people with a great sense of determination can make a tremendous impact, and this continues to inspire and move her.  She is so excited to begin working as Chapter Advisor, particularly at this moment in time.  As the network grows bigger and bigger, and we attain the potential to make a deep impact on the movement for global health equity, she is looking forward to sharing the knowledge she has gained from her fellow GlobeMedders at GWU and friends in RVCP with new--and old--chapters across the country.  Having witnessed GlobeMed at GWU's tremendous progress after being in Rwanda this year, she believes more than ever that our network can produce partnerships that will shock the global health field and call attention to the vast inequities that still exist across the globe.  She is pumped to begin working with the wonderful Maya Cohen as her partner in crime, while continuing to learn from her former chapter advisor, Bianca Nguyen. Alyssa loves dancing, eating, reading, having fun, meeting new people, and hugging Rwandan babies.
