Raising money and solidifying a network in America’s Giving Challenge
Posted on Nov 5, 2009 by Tracy Fuad
More than $18,000 have already been raised for GlobeMed through America’s Giving Challenge, which continues through Friday. The campaign puts non-profit organizations in a race against each other to gain the most individual donations. Daily winners receive $1500 prize, and the overall winner will receive $50,000 at the end of this week.
For newer chapters, the excitement and success of the campaign has been a way to rally the recently joined members and get to know each other.
“Aside from being an awesome opportunity to raise money, it’s been a great way to solidify us as a chapter and as a network,” said Maya Cohen, co-president of the Columbia Chapter.
Excitement peaked on Oct. 13th, the first designated “push” day for GlobeMed,, when chapters across the country mobilized their members to compete for the daily $1000 prize. The race was incredibly close, and came down to a single $10 donation that pushed GlobeMed into first place in the last minutes of the race, proving that “every donation counts,” as Northwestern co-president Lalith Polepeddi said.
The money raised will be split between the chapters and the national office, directly funding our grassroots partners and the Imagine 2030 campaign.
Northwestern chapter co-president Tiffany Wong believes GlobeMed can finish strong if every chapter mobilizes in the coming days. Currently, GlobeMed is in 9th place and poised to win $10,000, but every organization is vying to get ahead by Friday as well.
Said Cohen,“If we ask everyone to think about what GlobeMed means to them, and ask them to reach out to three people who will be touched by this and will make a $10 donation, I think we can make one more final push.”
