Chapter Profiles GlobeMed at Tufts University
Who We Are
Founded in 2011, GlobeMed at Tufts is one of 46 GlobeMed chapters working to improve the health of people living in poverty around the world. We are a student-run non profit that trains students to spread awareness, take advantage of surrounding resources, and develop the knowledge and skill sets necessary to raise money and contribute to the success of our partner, Nyaya Health. Nyaya was founded with the goal of helping to decrease the health burden in the district of Achham, a resource-poor area in western Nepal.
Our Partner - Nyaya Health in Achham, Nepal
Nyaya Health works in partnership with the local government of Achham, Nepal as part of an initiative to rebuild the public sector health system. Nyaya Health operates a hospital and provides mobile medical care services in Achham. Bayalpata Hospital employs an all-Nepali staff and provides medical care to members of the community. Currently, 75,000 patients receive free medical care. With supervision and training from volunteer public health experts, community health workers go door-to-door to spread knowledge to the population. In so doing, they aim to raise awareness and decrease the incidence of disease.
Our Project - $4,000 to support a Community Health Worker Expansion Project
This year our goal is to raise $4,000 to support Nyaya Health’s Community Health Worker Expansion Project.
