Who We Are

Founded in 2007, GlobeMed at USC is one of 46 GlobeMed chapters working to improve the health of people living in poverty around the world. We partner with Care Net Ghana, a grassroots organization in Hohoe, Ghana, to develop, fund, and implement projects that support women’s and children’s health and human rights.

Our Partner - Care Net Ghana in Hohoe, Ghana

Care Net Ghana is a grassroots organization in Hohoe, Ghana dedicated to delivering efficient and sustainable programs that promote rights and improve the living condition of marginalized groups, especially women and children. They combine basic education with health information, providing women and children with information about how to remain healthy and take actions to improve their own and their families’ health. Their areas of focus are education, health, child’s rights and environmental conservation.

Our Project - $2,000 to Support a Computer Lab for the Children of Hohoe, Ghana

This year, we are aiming to raise $2,000 to support a computer lab for the children of Hohe, Ghana. The computer lab will allow the children of the community to access the internet and participate in computer training and education.

Care Net currently has the space, capacity and computer knowledge to support this program. They only lack the funds. Help us support this project and change the lives of the children of Hohoe, Ghana. Together, we can give them the resources to become the generation of educated, empowered citizens that Ghana needs.

Why Computers? Computers, and especially access to the internet, have the potential to enhance a child’s education, engaging them in their own learning process and giving them access to a global perspective. Experience and comfort with computers can equip children with a highly marketable skill for the future.

Children who are initially drawn to Care Net by the computer lab can then be brought into the organization’s programs to support their health, development and human rights. When combined with comprehensive programs such as Care Net’s, the introduction of computers into a community can help the next generation gain the skills to lift themselves out of the cycle of poverty. The Computer Lab is part of a larger Care Net initiative, Rights of the Child, that aims to promote and protect the inherent dignity of every child by drawing attention to their fundamental needs.

Through the Rights of the Child program, Care Net works to support their survival, protection, development and participation in their everyday life. Its programs are based on the principles enshrined in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, the African Charter of the Rights and Welfare of the Child, and the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana.
