Chapter Profiles GlobeMed at Washington University in St. Louis
Who We Are
Founded in 2008, GlobeMed at Washington University in St. Louis is one of 46 GlobeMed chapters working to improve the health of people living in poverty around the world. We partner with Uganda Health and Development Associates in Iganga, Uganda to employ a multi-sectoral and professional approach with strong community participation and ownership for the enhancement of reproductive health, rights and empowerment of young people.
Our Partner - Uganda Development and Health Associates (UDHA) - Iganga, Uganda
GlobeMed at WashU is partnered with Uganda Development and Health Associates (UDHA), a community health organization working in and around Iganga, Uganda. UDHA works with the surrounding communities to empower them to improve their own health through education, community health workers and a clinical sector. The organization also serves as a hub for community organizing, mobilizing community members to advocate for their right to health care.
Our Project - $8,000 to support the UDHA Youth Center and The Nutrition for Naigobya Project
At the UDHA Youth Centre, GlobeMed at WashU works with UDHA staff to run a Peer Educator Program, which facilitates the training of ten youths in reproductive health and adolescent development to continue school and community health outreaches as Peer Educators. The Nutrition for Naigobya Project performed a baseline assessment of the nutritional needs of families with children under five in the community and facilitated training a group of Community Health Workers in rural Naigobya, who continue to work with families in the area to meet their nutritional needs.
