Solidarity In Global Health – Ed Cardoza
Ed Cardoza, VP of Development at Partners In Health, will be opening the 2008 Summit by discussing the idea of solidarity and its role in global health.
Partners In Health is a nonprofit organization based in Boston, Massachusetts that strives to provide a preferential option for those living in some of the world's poorest and sickest communities. Founded by Dr. Paul Farmer, PIH grew out of his medical missions to Haiti in the early 1980s; today, PIH operates health care and poverty alleviation programs in Haiti and seven other countries. Throughout all eight sites, PIH works in pragmatic solidarity with the communities to identify pressing needs and develop comprehensive solutions. To address the dire needs of these communities, PIH implements broad anti-poverty programs that address health needs as well as the need for education, housing, food, and job training.
