Since 2006, we have worked together, with students and grassroots organizations around the world. In all of those years, we’ve collected and created a variety of resources to support those in the GlobeMed network to face a wide variety of situations, challenges, and tasks. We also think that a lot of these tools are useful for anyone in the health equity movement and encourage you to explore what we’ve curated. Maybe you’ll find just the thing you need!

Amazing! Welcome to GlobeMed, we’re so glad to be a part of the global health equity movement with you. We suggest that you start by going through GlobeMed 101. That will give you an orientation to our history and the three areas of learning that chapters focus on.
If you have already joined a chapter at your university, make sure to complete a member form! At the end of the member form we ask for each member to pay member dues, if they are financially able to. These dues go into our Inclusion Fund, which is used to support GlobeMed students and chapter. Read more about member dues and the Inclusion Fund.

With GlobeMed being founded in 2006, and some chapters starting then as well, there can be a pretty big archive of information and historical documents for a chapter. Here’s where you can find everything you need relating to your chapter.

Partnership is at the core of the GlobeMed experience. GlobeMed was founded by students looking for alternatives to short-term volunteering, which is why we work in long-term, one-to-one partnerships. It’s not always easy to work across cultures, borders, or even time zones, and so we’ve curated these resources to support students to sustain their partnerships.
Recognizing that there are inherent power imbalances, it is especially important for partnerships to be approached with an active commitment to anti-oppression. Wondering what anti-oppressive partnership looks like in action in your chapter? We have this comprehensive action guide!

Storytelling is a part of working in partnership, and it’s important to make sure that we are telling stories respectfully and in an ethical way. Here’s a guide all about ethical storytelling and media use.

Learning from and leading your peers is a key part of the GlobeMed experience. We have this comprehensive action guide all about peer learning and leading, and is a great place to start.
It can also be helpful to take a moment to do some reflecting, visioning, and planning to help set goals and expectations with your chapter. Check out this tool to guide you through that process.

Inclusion and belonging are crucial in GlobeMed, and part of fostering a sense of belonging is facilitating brave spaces. Not sure what that means or how to do that? We have a whole guide about brave spaces!
When working with others, conflict is going to happen. This is a natural part of collaboration, and depending on how we respond to the conflict, it can be a chance to grow and generate new paradigms. We’ve found this toolkit, In It Together from Interrupting Criminalization and Dragonfly Partners, to be especially useful. We know that no single person or organization will achieve global health equity on their own. That’s why it is so important to connect with the greater community. Here’s our action guide all about working in community and the movement.
Community starts at the chapter level, and building community with your fellow chapter members takes some effort. Here are some resources about building community. One part of the GlobeMed model is that students shift resources from the Global North to the Global South, or from those with access to those without. All funds raised for partner organizations are 100% unrestricted, meaning the grassroots organizations are able to put the money to what they deem most necessary.
Raising the money for your chapter’s partner may seem daunting, but we have years of students’ experiences and knowledge to build on. Here’s some resources for fundraising and events.

From our alumni surveys, we’ve heard that participating in the Grassroots On-site/Online Work (GROW) experience is the most meaningful experience for many GlobeMed alumni. And we’re excited for you to be a part of that, too.
The get started, be sure to review the GROW Handbook. It will have everything you need to know in there.
As you prepare for your GROW experience, you will need complete GROW training, which includes some live sessions and completing the online GROW modules. You can check our programming calendar for all the dates for the live sessions. Even if you aren’t a GROW team member, you are more than welcome to go through the online modules and attend the live sessions.
If you’re the GROW Coordinator and wondering where to start as you plan your team’s GROW experience, check out this reflection, visioning, and planning tool. This tool can help you to think through team dynamics, set goals and expectations, and understand the learning process.

Community Resources
At GlobeMed, we know that we will not achieve global health equity without a strong movement and committed co-conspirators. If you believe that health is a human right, that systems of oppression need to be dismantled, and that people are the experts of their own experience, then you are a part of our community.

As a commitment to transparency and accountability, GlobeMed HQ is sharing our budget and the inclusion fund tracker. This budget includes a complete picture of anticipated income and spending. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the information found within the budget overview, we welcome you to reach out to info@globemed.org.
Currently, the Board of Directors FY2022 is approving the budget on a quarterly basis due to the increase from the previous year, the change in available funding due to COVID-19 relief efforts, and to hold themselves accountable to their financial responsibilities. We are actively creating a fundraising strategy to diversify our income and are especially thankful for our community that invests in our work. If you would like to invest in young global health equity leaders, we are grateful for your support.
